Advertisements: 1816-11-02 National Advocate (New York): "Just published, by G & R Waite, 54 Maiden-lane, (handsomely bound in morocco) price 1 dol. 50 cts. a new pocket edition of Hoyle's Games. This edition is printed from the late London editions, and contains more than any one yet published. To the game of whist is added Mr. Mathews' advice to whist players, which is said now to supersede the maxims of Hoyle; in billiards the game of fortification is introduced; cricket and other games of exercise are added, as they are now becoming fashionable in this country. The work is concluded with Franklin's morals of chess, and the tale of the Persian gamesters."
