1752-02-25 Dublin Gazette: “This day is published, by Peter Wilson, opposite the old Horse Guard, in
Dame-Street, with two additional chapters to the game of whist, (not in any
former edition;) containing a dictionary of Whist, which resolves almost all
the critical cases that may happen in the game, and thirteen new cases, now first
published, [price a British shilling.] The Polite Gamester...Note,
the treatise on Whist, with the two additional chapters and artifical memory,
may be had separately, price 4d. ☞Be careful to ask for Wilson's
edition of the Polite Gamester.” |

This is the second issue of the Wilson's Whist, distingusihed from Whist.D.Wilson.1.1 by the inserted F gathering. From the advertisement it
appears that the two treatises, Whist and Memory were sold only as a single volume. The only surviving copy not part of The Polite Gamester is at the Bodleian Library and contains both works, although the ECCO surrogate
and the ESTC listing are of Memory only. |
